It was a beautiful evening at the Lake on Monday for a lot of folks.
Bonus photo!
Anyone thinking this photo is a commentary on conspicuous consumption would surely be wrong. Possibly.

That family group looks so natural. Hard to achieve, but you’ve done it, Ken. And the second shot – David and Goliath!
Thanks, Andy. These kids were having a great time playing on the rocks. That usually is good photo material.
As a proud owner of a MINI, I like the second shot (as well as the first).
Thanks, John. I test drove the MINI. Twice. It’s easily the most fun to drive car I’ve ever driven. It could make my short list as the Focus replacement, which, hopefully, won’t be for a while.
I just went to the link to see your car. SWEET!!! I drove the coupe last year and WOW, what a car. I don’t think you could have picked better.
And all we get is another 5″ of snow!
Sorry, John. Sigh.
Nice shots! You must have to look really carefully to find a Mini in the States, never seemed to be many of them in the first place. I learned to drive on one so have a soft spot for them. They never seemed so small as the do these days though.
Thanks, ehpem. The original MINI is very hard to come by but the new MINI has dealerships popping up all over. There is even one in Rochester now.
My spouse has a cousin in the Upper Peninsula Michigan, and she has a Mini (BMW version) – so they must be pretty much everywhere. There were an awful lot of the Mini (Austin version) around here in the 60’s and early 70’s and I still see one several times a week. Very much a cult car now. They were an awful lot of fun to drive. The original Honda Civic was nearly a dead ringer for these cars – a real rip off. And a perfect example of how to make a car better and grab the market. Where is Austin now, after such a great opportunity?
I had an early (maybe first gen) Civic that was about the same size an the modern MINI and I loved that little car. It wasn’t the fastest car on the road (far from it) but it was a lot of fun and it handled very well, got great mileage and you could park it anywhere.
Fantastic ! It looks like chinese theater. With the bonus of beautiful sky and sea.
Thanks, Pierre. Such beautiful days draw a lot of people to the lake and there are always plenty of photo ops.
Those drivers could save an entire parking space by parking the MINI in the bed of the truck. (For the record, there are even MINIs in Texas.)
No kidding, Melinda! But there are far more F150s here than MINIs. Is a Texas MINI bigger than regular MINIs? Isn’t everything BIGGER in Texas?
My friend Adolfo has a MINI Clubman, which is bigger than a regular MINI. So, yes.
Or, they could park the F150 ON the Mini.
See, I hadn’t even thought of that, but it seems so obvious now.
Actually, I think image #2 is more of a comment on “reasonable color selection” versus “really, really bad color selection”. Who thinks up these colors? And why do people buy them? In case you’re wondering, I’m talking about that god-awful green thing that looks like it was pulled out of a 3-year old’s toy box……..
Besides, according to yesterday’s newspaper the best way to reduce carbon emissions is to stop eating meat (or get the damn cows to stop pooping and farting). Honest. That’s what it said………
For many people, the car is an extension of themselves and some people are just garish. I’m certain this was not an original color for the early MINI cars and someone had it restored and painted this color intentionally and choose this over approximately 16 million other colors. Even white would be better (possibly).
Is the FAR SIDE back in the paper???
I don’t know, Ken. I’ve seen this color before. I’ll bet it’s an “original”. Even so, I was mostly kidding. People can have whatever color they want, right? Even if it proves that they’re color blind…….
The cow thing – I was serious about that. I’ve heard that before. A large percentage of the methane that finds its way into the atmosphere comes from cows, pigs, etc. It does sound a little like a FAR SIDE cartoon, but it’s apparently credible.
