Ehpem had an excellent post recently featuring beautiful iris photos. I love irises and, since ehpem did a terrific job on the flowers, I thought I’d post some photos of the foliage from ours.
The Ninebark is doing extremely well this spring, too.

Very nice tones. I really like the counterpoint of the shadows against the patterns of the leaves. Nice work!
Thanks, Tom. When the leaves are back lit they seem translucent.
Well, thank you very much Ken! I really like these foliage shots with the shadows on top. And nice treatment too.
Ninebark is not something I am familiar with – delicate flowers and great foliage colour. Is it a native plant?
Thanks and your welcome, ephem. I think ninebark will grow just about anywhere and this shrub is three times the size now than when we put it in three years ago. After the flowers are gone it will shoot up another foot and the leaves are a deep purple color. We have irises on either side of it and they look great together.
Shortly after seeing your shots I noticed the morning light on my irises, again. It was nice to see shadows of leaves on top of backlit other leaves, though I ended up taking pictures of the flower buds before I hurried off to work.
Your photos were my inspiration.
Irises are my favorite flower, and I like the leaves nearly as much as I like the flowers. These are great shots!
Thanks, Melinda. I love the leaves, too, and they last a lot longer than the flowers. Ours are abut 2 feet tall and look lovely all summer.
I’m not familiar with Ninebark either. Great images!
Thanks, Charles.
Your Iris’ leaves are beautiful, mine are all eaten by snails…
I like the Ninebark flower very much
Thanks, Chantal. I had a problem with snails at a previous residence but it was my strawberries they were after.
Just got back from another trip to Nebraska and trying to get caught up on some of the blogs I enjoy. Great images, Ken!
Thanks, John.
