The Sea Breeze FD had an exercise on the ice at Irondequoit Bay yesterday as I happened by. They have a hovercraft they were trying out on the ice and water. It’s the first time I’ve seen one of this size and it seemed to maneuver very well on both ice and water. And pretty fast, too, though the gulls were faster.

I decided to avoid the Twist of fate post, not sure about the pic therein…so here I am checking out the Fun on Ice! It must be extraordinary to be able to walk on water, in any shape or form, not something I experience down here, in the heat….so, Ken, did they give you a ride?
I would have taken the ride if they offered but I really wasn’t dressed the way these firemen were. But it does look like fun.

It was pure luck that I was passing by while the exercise was going on. I would otherwise miss it completely.
Good name, awesome craft . . . but they need spiffier suits.
Believe me – if you were out there on the ice and water you wouldn’t care how spiffy you looked.

Well, in the interest of full disclosure, the hovercraft belongs to the town of Irondequoit, a neighbor of Webster. I used to live there, a long, long time ago.
Wouldn’t mind trying that – though it looks pretty cold!

It’s really cool, Jimi. Ihave a friend who lives on a lake and in the center of the lake is a small island with one house. The owner has a garage on the lake shore and a hovercraft to get back and forth to the island. It seems like a lot of work but they don’t get a lot of drop-ins, either.
Now that’s what I call a toy for the boys.
