I finally had another opportunity to return to the Bay for more swan shots (photographs, I mean). We had a few days above freezing that left some melting ice and some clear water for swimming. The sun was going down fast, which accounts for the slight yellowish tint on the big birds.
They’re so beautiful, aren’t they. My favourite shot here is the black and white – so serene and the ripples are a lovely frame.
Thanks, Ash. The last one is actually from a session last year but at the same spot.
I’ll echo a preference for the third picture, in which the single subject holds my attention.
Thanks, Steve. I use a home made preset for the treatment as this photo is part of a series.
Lovely!
Thanks, snap.
I agree with Ashley. 🙂
I like them all of course, but the one in b&w in Sepia tone… gorgeous.
Thanks, Malin. I don’t know why I failed to post this before.
Swans are such beautiful and graceful birds and you’ve captured them quite nicely here, Ken.
I really like that last shot!
Thanks, Jimi. The last one is about a year old but shot in the same location.
Nice shots, especially the sepia as the other posters have suggested.
I wonder how many of these birds are on the bay… any idea?
Thanks, John. Themost I’ve seen at one time was probably around 6. I don’t think they wander far but I’ve seen quite a few at Bradocks Bay, too.
Oh, my. That third one is gorgeous. The pale sepia is perfect for it. I like the lines of the swan, the ripples, and the fact that you can see the foot. Somehow the foot makes me know that the swan has a physical reality.
Thanks, Linda. The swans are really fun to shoot, too.
Number 3 is really nice Ken. Simple composition, a little toning, a little vignette. Voila! A wonderful shot.
Thanks, John. That’s my favorite, too.
Very nice composition and B&W treatment. These birds are well suited for B&W treatments.
Thanks, ED. I’ve been working on doing the same B&W treatment on the other shots, too. Might get 2 posts out of them.
Superb ! All three of them 🙂
Thanks, Jocelyne.
Three for me loved it.
Thanks, SP. I’m beginning to feel you can’t take a bad photo of a swan.
