another flower shot – pt 117 32 Replies 2321 square? or rectangle? Decisions, decisions. 2321 Advertisement Related
The square frame has more attention on the centre of the flower.
One for square!
Square. The portrait one doesn’t add anything interesting…
Two for square!
For a stand-alone photo, i prefer square. On the other hand, say it is used on the cover of a book, rectangular would be better, and you could use the dark part on the bottom for the title or the author’s name…
I’ll put your down for square, Alessandro. That’s three for the square.
That’s 4 for the square, 0 for the rectangle!
and another beautiful flower shot Ken.
I’m furious I don’t receive your newsletters anymore!
Thanks, Chantal. Check your notification settings. It sometimes changes spontaneously.
Don’t you know it is hip to be square?
I don’t think anyone would call me hip, though.
Yeah, definitely square.
Hello, your flower is divine, good day!
actually quite amazing how much this picture “feels” different in the square..
You’re right. It shows the importance of cropping, even if it’s just a small portion being cropped out.
I prefer the black and white rectangular one. The leaves at the bottom of the frame make a lovely contrast to the flower itself.
Thanks, Ash. I think that is my personal favorite, too. Not too many will see it though.
Perhaps you ought to direct them to it, it’s really wonderful.
Square for me too. Now I need to go find the black and white version – I am guess it is at lightscatter.
Thanks, Ehpem. Lightscatter is where I put my personal favorites. This site is more like the “B” sides.
I have a folfer called “B sides”. They are photos I didn’t want to post for one reason or another. I might make a page just for them for folks who have some time to waste.
I don’t have much time these days, but I would definitely spend some time in a B sides page of yours!
I just went to look at the black and white version – I much prefer it to these colour ones!
I do, too.
Have a nice week end Ken
cuddle to Emo
Thanks, Chantal. Have a nice weekend yourself.
A riot of ruffles, Ken. A Dahlia I assume (or think) – flowers like this work so well in a square format in my opinion. I went to a Country House garden at the end of a very hectic last week and found, surprisingly, some wonderful late summer Asters etc. I’ve just finished processing them – and I’ve squared off every single shot. I was planning to feature them some time – maybe next week.
Thanks, Andy. Most commenters agree that they like the square format better but truth be told, I’m still not convinced. The reason is that the dark leaves is a nice anchor for me and sort of grounds the flower a bit. I’ll be looking for your shots in the near future.
